The role ensures that all construction, installation, and commissioning activities are completed safely, on time, within budget, and in accordance with technical specifications and quality standards

Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Site Manager to lead the successful execution of GE Vernova’s scope of work under the Synchronous Condenser project in Australia & APAC region. This position oversees subcontractors and site teams, coordinates across engineering and commissioning functions, and manages interfaces between electrical and mechanical works. A strong focus is placed on health, safety, compliance, and stakeholder communication to achieve successful project energization and handover.

The Senior Site Manager plays a critical leadership role in driving site performance, resolving technical and operational challenges, and ensuring the project is completed to required standards and client expectations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Site Leadership & Management

  • Lead all on-site construction activities for electrical and BOP works.
  • Manage subcontractors, supervisors, and site engineers.
  • Ensure effective workforce planning and resource allocation.
  • Maintain strong leadership presence and promote a high-performance culture.

2. Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)

  • Enforce strict adherence to HSE policies and procedures.
  • Conduct site safety inspections, toolbox talks, and risk assessments.
  • Ensure compliance with local regulations and project-specific safety standards.
  • Drive a “zero harm” safety culture.

3. Project Execution

  • Oversee installation of:
    • Synchronous condenser unit
    • Transformers and switchgear
    • HV/MV cabling and terminations
    • Protection and control systems
  • Manage BOP works including:
    • Civil foundations and structures
    • Cooling systems
    • Auxiliary systems (fire protection, HVAC, etc.)
  • Monitor progress against project schedule and implement corrective actions where required.

4. Stakeholder & Interface Management

  • Coordinate with engineering, procurement, and commissioning teams.
  • Liaise with clients, consultants, and regulatory authorities.
  • Manage interfaces between electrical and mechanical disciplines.

5. Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Ensure all works are executed in line with approved drawings, specifications, and standards.
  • Implement QA/QC procedures and oversee inspections and testing.
  • Manage documentation, including ITPs, checklists, and as-built records.

6. Schedule & Cost Control

  • Track site progress and report against milestones.
  • Identify risks to schedule and develop mitigation plans.
  • Support cost control by minimizing rework and optimizing resources.

7. Commissioning Support

  • Coordinate pre-commissioning and commissioning activities.
  • Ensure systems are installed and tested for energization readiness.
  • Support troubleshooting and defect resolution.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • 15+ years of experience in construction/site management for power or energy projects.
  • Proven experience with:
    • Synchronous condensers, substations, or large-scale electrical infrastructure
    • High-voltage systems (HV/MV)
  • Strong knowledge of BOP systems and multidisciplinary coordination.
  • Familiarity with relevant standards (IEC, IEEE, local grid codes).
